NRA: Companies pulling out of agreements guilty of 'political and civic cowardice'

By The Associated Press

The National Rifle Association says companies that are pulling out of agreements with the organization over gun control and in the wake of the Florida school shooting reflect a "shameful display of political and civic cowardice."

In an email Saturday, the NRA said the loss of corporate discounts and other perks "will neither scare nor distract" NRA members.

"In time, these brands will be replaced by others who recognize that patriotism and determined commitment to Constitutional freedoms are characteristics of a marketplace they very much want to serve," the NRA statement said.

The NRA and the State of Florida are faced with a growing backlash as companies cut ties to the gun industry, and student survivors of the Florida school shooting are calling for tourism boycotts of their home state until gun control measures are enacted.

The latest companies to end their ties with the NRA are Delta and United Airlines, two of the three largest U.S.-based airlines.
