RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico — The Georgia men’s golf team remained in eighth place following the second round of the Puerto Rico Classic on Monday.
The Bulldogs fired an 8-over 292 on Rio Mar Country Club’s par-71, 6,716-yard Ocean Course to move to 12-over 580 for the tournament. Georgia Tech holds the team lead at 6-under 562.
Sophomore Trevor Phillips paced the Bulldogs in the second round as he signed for a 2-under 69. Senior Zach Healy and sophomore Spencer Ralston each added a 3-over 74 and junior David Mackey posted a 4-over 75. Freshman Davis Thompson had the Bulldogs’ non-counting score of 5-over 76.
Phillips improved to 3-under 139 and is in sixth place individually. Alabama’s Lee Hodges holds the individual lead at 7-under 135. Healy moved to 2-over 144, followed by Mackey at 4-over 146, Ralston at 9-over 151 and Thompson at 14-over 156.
In the Puerto Rico Individual Classic on Rio Mar’s par-72, 6,902-yard River Course, freshman John Hilliard Catanzaro fired an even-par 72 and is at 3-over 147 for the tournament. Oklahoma teammates Rylee Reinerston and Garett Reband share the lead at 3-under 141.
The Puerto Rico Classic will conclude on Tuesday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The Bulldogs will be paired with Marquette and Middle Tennessee State in second round.
