Dawson County High School student killed in Monday morning crash

By B.J. Williams

An 18-year-old girl from Dawson County was killed in a two-vehicle accident on State Route (SR) 53 Monday morning.

Sgt. Casey Coffee with the Georgia State Patrol said Grace Elizabeth Sheer was driving her Honda CRV westbound on the highway when she failed to negotiate a curve near Buddy Burt Road.

"[The CRV] began to rotate counterclockwise and crossed the centerline of the roadway," Coffee wrote in a press statement.

He said Sheer's vehicle hit the front of an eastbound Peterbilt tractor trailer and then traveled off the south shoulder of the highway and hit an embankment. Sheer died at the scene.

Coffee said the driver of the tractor trailer, 42-year-old Edwin Thomas Kincannon, Jr. of Cartersville, was not injured.

"Both drivers were wearing their seat belts," Coffee said.

Officials in the front office at Dawson County High School confirmed that Grace Sheer was a senior at the school.

The fatal accident happened just before 8 a.m.
