Winter weather advisory calls for chance of snow, ice Sunday morning

Worshipers in northeast Georgia may encounter some slick roads on the way to church Sunday morning with a chance over overnight snow and ice, according to forecasters.

Already under an arctic airmass, mid and upper level moisture is expected to arrive Saturday evening, resulting in mixed winter precipitation, according to the National Weather Service.

"Some sleet will be possible at the onset of precipitation for areas outside the advisory area including the Atlanta Metro however no impacts are expected," the advisory from the weather service reads.  "As precipitation increases in intensity after midnight, it is expected to transition over to all freezing rain within the advisory area and accumulate."

That area includes Fannin, Gilmer, Union, Towns, Pickens, Dawson, Lumpkin, White, Hall and Banks counties.

"Total snow accumulations of up to one half inch and ice accumulations of around one tenth are expected within the advisory area," NWS forecasters stated.

The advisory goes into effect at 1 a.m. Sunday and continues until 10 a.m.

While roads may be slick in the morning, the AccessWDUN forecast for Sunday calls for sunshine with a high around 45.
