The Flowery Branch City Council heard a rezoning request that would allow for a new subdivision in the city, the third such request brought before the council in the past two months.
The 21-acre plot in question sits on the west side of Radford Road and connects to the east side of Gainesville Street just south of McEver Road. According to plans from the developers, the neighborhood would feature more than 60 single-family detached "ranch-style" homes and would have entrances on both Radford Road and Gainesville Street.
The development comes as the city continues to work to finalize the rezoning for a more-than 90 unit development on East Main Street, and less than two months after a separate development also on East Main Street was approved in December.
The rezoning would change the land from its current agricultural designation to Planned Unit Development.
Alcohol code hopes to address "growlers" and package stores
The city council also heard a proposal for changes to the way city's alcohol code.
City Planning Director Rich Atkinson said the amendments will define growlers and package stores for reference within the code.
"It was just really a deficiency in the code. There was no definition for a growler, there was no definition for a package store, so this just shores up so you come in, you know exactly where you're allowed to go and what kind of conditions go along with that," Atkinson said.
The amendment defines a package store as "a retail establishment that sells beer, wine, and/or liquor in sealed containers for
off-site consumption," while it describes a growler as "a retail establishment that sells beer in a bottle made of glass or other material
customary to the industry that is sealed on the premises."
The changes also set requirements for package stores to not be built within 100 feet of a church or religious institution.
The council will vote on the changes at a later meeting.
