Gainesville man charged after alleged assault of two deputies

A Gainesville man is behind bars without bond for assaulting two Hall County Sheriff's deputies along with a host of other charges.

Investigators said deputies were called to County Line Drive early Thursday morning to reports of a suspicious man dressed in all black. They said when deputies arrived Joseph Slade Dean, 23, gave them a fake name and date of birth, but asked for a ride to Old Cornelia Highway.
 
At that location, deputies learned Dean's identity and found he had an outstanding warrant for probation violation.

They say Dean resisted arrest by kicking an punching deputies, then ran off. He was apprehended a short time later by a Gainesville Police K-9.

Dean is charged with misdemeanour battery, felony obstruction and also giving false statements to law enforcement.

The deputies received only minor injuries.
