Wastewater treatment plant goes "back to the drawing board" in Forsyth County

After loud public outcry, Forsyth County leaders vote to terminate the contract on a 90 acre piece of property planned to house a proposed wastewater treatment facility.

Commissioners told residents that the school board already owns land in the same area of the county and plans to build a new school there.

Commissioner Chair Todd Levent asked the public to not listen to rumors or scare tactics and said, "The school board has plans to put schools there, not industrial. This is not some kind of smoke and mirrors thing for the schools to say, 'yeah, we're going to build schools' to deceive our public and then put a sewer plant there. That's just ludicrous."

However, they agreed to start their search from scratch and toyed with the idea of forming a citizen panel to assist in the search.

The board will take up the topic again during their work session in January.
