Looks like a wet closeout to 2018

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

If the forecast holds, it's going to be a very wet end to 2018 across north Georgia.

The National Weather Service says the Gainesville area and other parts of north and central Georgia can expect from 4-6 inches of rain as several rounds of rain push through between tonight and Saturday morning.  As a result, a flash flood watch has been posted for the affected areas.

The biggest threat is along and north of a line from LaGrange to Atlanta to the Toccoa area.

In addition, wind gusts of 25-30 miles an hour are also forecast today and tonight, prompting a wind advisory to be issued for parts of west and north Georgia, with gusts as high as 40 miles an hour possible in the higher elevations.  This could translate into downed trees and power lines, according to the NWS.
