Gainesville City Schools' 2019-2020 enrollment, registration information

The Gainesville City School System will be offering "school choice enrollment" in the upcoming school year and school officials have established elementary zone clusters in order to "improve our transportation services."

Gainesville City Schools will provide transportation services only within a student's assigned cluster.

"The Gainesville  Board of Education reserves the right to establish enrollment limits in all grades, classes, and/or programs," according to a school system news release.  "Therefore, there must be spaces available within the established cap amount for each grade level.  Priority for classroom space will be provided to all City of Gainesville resident students first.

The school system has also released the following timeline for registration, etc.:

Pre-K Lottery Sign Up and Lottery drawing for 2019-2020 (CITY RESIDENTS)

Please sign up for the Pre-K Lottery on January 7 - 23, 2019 at the School Board Office located at 508 Oak Street Gainesville, GA.  The lottery drawing for all Pre-K enrollments will take place on January 24, 2019.  

Kindergarten Enrollment for 2019-20

Parents/Guardians should register rising kindergarten students at the elementary school they would like their child to attend for the upcoming 2019-20 school year on January 8 – January 22, 2019, from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Parents should bring the following documents: birth certificate, immunization form #3231, ears, eyes and dental certificate #3300, social security card (if available), and 2 proofs of residency documents which include one of the following: current lease/mortgage/purchase agreement, current warranty or quitclaim deed, current paycheck stub/IRS Form 1099, current homeowner’s insurance policy AND a copy of a current (within 30 days) utility (gas, water, electric, cable/internet bill with service address), and photo ID of parent/guardian.

Currently Enrolled City Residents in Grades PK-4

Choice Enrollment forms will come home with currently enrolled pre-kindergarten through 4th-grade students on January 7, 2019. Information about your child’s assigned cluster will be printed on the letter. Parents should complete and return choice enrollment forms to the schools by January 22, 2019. Students who are currently enrolled in Gainesville City Schools’ Pre-K programs should attach 2 updated proofs of residency to the school choice form.

Newly Enrolling City Resident Students in Grades 1-11

Newly enrolling city residents should register at the School Board Office located @ 508 Oak Street from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM from January 8- 22, 2019 in order to participate in Choice Enrollment. Newly Enrolling Non Residents for 2019-2020

Newly enrolling non-residents for the upcoming 2019-20 school year should complete the Non-resident application at the Gainesville City School System School Board Office located at 508 Oak Street beginning January 8 – 22, 2019 from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Parents should bring the following documents: School transcript for high school aged students, Current report card for elementary or middle school aged students, Attendance and Behavior Records.  Acceptance or denial letters will be mailed on January 30, 2019.
