Girls basketball: Lady Vikings, Lady Falcons take out-of-state wins; Rabun, Dawson win, Lakeview, Bluff fall

PANAMA CITY, Fla. — The East Hall girls won their second consecutive game at the Beach Bash with a 74-49 win over Marianna Friday.

East Hall coach Justin Wheeler said his group, which started the season 1-7, is starting to find its form after winning for the fourth time in five games.

"Our girls are playing together with a ton of effort right now," Whheler said. "We had a slow start, but we picked up the tempo after a few possessions. Our pressure got to them and we were able to control majority of the game."

The Lady Vikings were led byIvey Shadburn and Audrey Griffin with 13 points apiece.

East Hall (5-8) next will play Chiles (Fla ) on Saturday.

 

FLOWERY BRANCH 43,
CHAPARRAL (Colo.) 31

The Lady Falcons rallied from a big first uarter deficit to get a win in the Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix, Ariz., on Friday.

Flowery Branch (8-3) trailed 16-9 after the first quarter but pulled within 25-24 by halftime. The second half was defensive slugfest as the two teams combined for just 25 points.

The Lady Falcons trailed 31-29 after the third uarter and outscored Chaparral 14-0 in the fourth quarter to rally for the win.

Ashlee Locke had a monster game with a triple-double with 12 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 blocks for Flowery Branch. Caroline Wysocki added 18 points and Ashley Woodroffe 13 points for the Lady Falcons.

On Thursday the Lady Falcons played a late-night game and lost 53-43 to Omaha, Neb., with Wysocki pouring in 17 points to lead the way.

 

RABUN COUNTY 62,
WALHALLA (S.C) 26

Rabun County won it sixth straight game with a rout of the visitors from South Carolina.

Destiny Deetz had a big game with 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 steals for the Lady Wildcats (8-1). Brooke Henricks added 15 points and 6 rebounds while Hanna Cannon and Sophie Woodard each chipping in with 8 points apiece for Rabun County.

The Lady Wildcats are off until Fri. Dec. 28 when they take on Smoky Mountain in the Franklin (N.C.) tournament.

 

DAWSON COUNTY 64,
PICKENS 49

The Lady Tigers outscored the Dragonettes 35-23 in the second half to blow open a close game in front of a big alumni crowd at home.

Dawson County (8-3) led 15-11 after the first quarter but Pickens closed the gap to 29-26 by halftime. The Lady Tigers opened a 49-40 lead heading into the fourth uarter and held the Dragonettes to just 9 fourth quarter points.

Kaylee Sticker scored 19 to pace Dawson County and Sophia D'Oliveira added 17 points. Maddie Anglin had 9 points and Mariah Benson chipped in 7 points for the Lady Tigers.

Dawson County next will play Sequoyah in the War Lodge Invitational at Sequoyah High School at 4 p.m. on Saturday.

 

LAKESIDE 52,
LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 49

The Lions dropped a heartbreaker in the finals Providence Christmas tournament.
 
The loss also snapped Lakeview's (9-3) 8-game winning streak.
 
Sadie Thrailkill led Lakeview with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 steals. Savannah Kinsey added 12 points, Jackie Allen had 11 points and 7 assists, and Joelle Snyder 9 points for the Lady Lions.
 
Lakeview is off until Thursday when it takes on North Hall in the first round of the Lanierland Tournament.
 
 

WINDER-BARROW 64,
CHEROKEE BLUFF 49

 
The Lady Bears fell behind big in the fist half, cut it to 10 in th second half, but could not get any closer in a loss to the Lady Bulldoggs.
 
Timber Gaither led Cherokee Bluff (6-6) Madi Phillips added 11 poits and AP Graham poured in 10 points for the Lady Bears.
