*The Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police, District 9 Representatives honored retiring Gainesville Police Chief Carol Martin this week.  She was presented with a plaque for her 32 years in law enforcement.  Chief Martin's retirement is effective Jan. 31.

*For 35 consecutive years, members of the First Baptist Church in Gainesville have provided a Christmas worship service and a meal for the almost 200 inmates at the Hall County Correctional Institution.  This year this mission was carried out on Dec. 15.

*Helen Arts & Heritage Center events update.  

*The City of Cumming reports an 800-gallon sewer spill into an unnamed tributary of Lake Lanier Dec. 18.  It occurred near 2280 Briarwood Trail and was caused by grease partially blocking a sewer line.
