Law enforcement agencies will escort fallen officer's body home Saturday morning

The body of Dekalb County Police Department Officer Edgar Flores will be returned to Habersham County Saturday morning.

Local law enforcement agencies are reporting that Flores' remains will leave the Dekalb County Medical Examiner's Office around 10 a.m. The body will then be transported to Whitfield Funeral Home in Baldwin.

Personnel from the Hall County Sheriff's Office, Hall County Fire Services, the Gainesville Police Department and the Gainesville Fire Department are expected to honor Flores as his body is brought from Atlanta into Hall County on I-985. Law enforcement and emergency services personnel from Habersham County will take over the escort at the Hall/Habersham County line on Georgia 365.

Travel on I-985 and Georgia 365 will be impeded for a short time as the procession moves through the area.

Elachee Nature Science Center said it will waive parking fees Saturday morning for anyone who wants to stand on the bridge over I-985 to honor Officer Flores as the procession passes by. 

Officer Flores was shot and killed by a suspect during a traffic stop on Candler Road in Decatur Thursday night.

Funeral services for Flores are incomplete at this time. A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist Flores' fiance Lizandra Mora pay for the funeral.
