Last classes held at Lanier Tech Oakwood campus; move to new campus underway

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

The last classes on the Lanier Technical College campus in Oakwood have been held, and officials have begun the move to the new campus north of Gainesville.

When classes resume on Jan. 22, students, faculty and staff will report to the new location on Georgia 365.   The Oakwood campus has served the school for the past 52 years.

Lanier Tech spokesman Dave Parrish says the timing of the move was made to coincide with the period when the school is normally closed for the Christmas and New Year's holidays.

"We planned the move to the new Hall Campus to ensure that we will be fully operational for students starting Jan. 22, the first day of the Spring semester,"  Parrish wrote in an email Thursday.  "During the move period, we also have the traditional timeframe when the College is always closed for Christmas and New Year's."

He added "The movers and riggers are exceptionally efficient and we are ahead of the planned moving schedule for departments, etc. Selected departments that were not directly affecting student studies starting moving yesterday, and the remaining departments are moving today.  The schedule was carefully planned so that student education would not, and has not, been adversely affected."
