Jackson County authorities look for suspects who broke door, stole cigarettes from convenience store

By B.J. Williams

Two suspects smashed the glass door to a Jackson County convenience store Monday morning and swiped more than $400 worth of cigarettes, according to law enforcement.

Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum said the theft occurred around 1:30 a.m. at Dan's Food Mart in Nicholson.

Mangum said an alarm sounded at the store and when deputies arrived, they found the front door glass had been broken and merchandise taken from the store. The damage to the store was placed at $500.

"Video surveillance showed two subjects wearing gloves and masks make entry into the store and steal items," Mangum wrote in an email.

The sheriff said investigators are asking the public for help as they work to identify the suspects.

"Citizens are encouraged to notify their local law enforcement agencies of any suspicious persons, crimes or other relevant information by calling 911 or the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at 706-367-8718," Mangum said.

She said citizens can also offer information without being identified by contacting the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office’s Anonymous Tip Line at 706-367-3784.
