LANCASTER, S.C. - Chris Ferguson took the lead around the halfway mark, and went on to score the victory in Saturday night’s Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series season finale at South Carolina’s Lancaster Speedway.
The win was worth a $10,000 payday to the Mt. Holly, South Carolina speedster in his second career series victory, in the first visit to the half-mile dirt track for the series since 2005.
Zack Mitchell opened the night by scoring the pole, with Jeff Smith starting on the outside of the front row. Mitchell took the early lead, with Smith in pursuit, while Ferguson began working his way forward from the eighth starting position.
Ferguson took the lead around the race’s midway point, and went on to hold off late challenges from Brandon Overton and Michael Brown to record the victory.
Brown finished in second, with Michael Maresca in third, Ross Bailes in fifth and Overton in fifth.
Ben Watkins, Kyle Hardy, Joey Coulter, Mark Dysart and Mark Dodson rounded out the top ten finishers.
