GDOL: October jobless rate moves upward for Gainesville metro

By AccessWDUN Staff

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said all employment indicators remain positive for the year for the Gainesville metro area, even as the jobless rate increases.

Butler reported Thursday that the Gainesville unemployment rate for October was 2.9-percent, up three-tenths of a point from September.

Butler said there was still strong job growth in the Gainesville metro and the area hit a record number with job creations.

“It’s always good to see jobs grow in Georgia and more records set,” Butler said. “This holiday season we have much to be thankful for. The job market has been very robust this year.”

Butler also noted that more people entered the work force in the Gainesville metro in October, a factor that prompted the increase in the overall unemployment number.

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed 632 active job postings in metro Gainesville  for September.

The one-county MSA includes just Hall County.
