Hundreds of people attended Friday's Trauma Symposium '18 in Gainesville to hear about the advances being made in trauma care across the region.
Gov. Nathan Deal received this year's Governor's Award for Trauma Excellence for his advocacy for trauma care in Georgia during his time in office.
In addition, the audience heard from a police officer who survived a serious crash thanks to the effort of officials at Union General EMS, Union General Hospital, Airlife, Northeast Georgia Medical Center and Shepherd Spinal Center.
