The finished product won't be ready for motorists for at least another five years, but Hall County residents will get a chance later this month to see the preliminary design for the long-discussed Sardis Road Connector.
The proposed four-lane divided highway will be 3.4 miles long and connect Dawsonville Highway/SR 53 with Thompson Bridge Road/SR 60 in the northwest corner of the county.
Denise Farr, the project engineer for the Sardis Road Connector, said the county hopes to start acquiring right-of-way for the connector project in the summer of 2019.
"It will probably take two years to acquire all of that right-of-way," Farr said.
Then the Georgia Department of Transportation would be responsible for construction of the road.
"They will begin construction in 2021 and they are expecting that that will take two years to complete," Farr said.
Farr said area residents are invited to look at the preliminary designs for the project at an open house at Chestatee High School on Thursday, Nov. 15 from 5 to 7 p.m.
"We'll have the design consultant there...we'll have four boards up with an aerial view...to show where the road's going to go," Farr said.
She said the open house is a good time for citizens to ask questions, and she said there will be comment cards for people to offer written comment.
