Bo Wilson, who has covered high school athletics in North Georgia for more than two decades, has been named sports editor for AccessWDUN.
A native of Dawsonville, Wilson will oversee day-to-day operations of AccessWDUN’s sports pages, especially its coverage of local high school sports. He begins his new job Nov. 1.
He previously worked for Jacobs Media for two years as the traffic reporter for “Morning News with Bill & Joel,” starting in 2014.
“AccessWDUN has truly become a household name and a trusted sports source around the state,” Wilson said. “Now, I get the opportunity to step in and add more blocks to this incredibly strong platform. I'm excited to have the power of the entire Jacobs Media family on our team. It's going to be an exciting venture."
Bill Maine, executive vice president and general manager of WDUN, said Wilson’s experience as a sports writer and broadcaster make him the perfect fit for AccessWDUN.
“We are excited to welcome Bo back to our team,” Maine said. “I’m confident he’ll use his talents to help us expand the way we tell the story on North Georgia sports through words, video and pictures.”
Wilson began his career in radio, as a part-time member of the sports broadcast crew at WGDR in Dahlonega.
In 1999, he began working as a part-time sports writer for the Dawson News & Advertiser. He rose through the ranks during his time there, ending up as managing editor.
After he left the newspaper, he managed WZTR radio in Dahlonega, where he also hosted a morning show and produced sports coverage for the area high schools.
In 2014, Wilson and a partner launched North Georgia SportsLink, a multimedia broadcasting company that covers high school sports in Lumpkin and Dawson counties through live broadcasts, web and social media.
Most recently, he was the Northeast Georgia branch manager for the Better Business Bureau.
He is married and has two daughters.
AccessWDUN is a division of Jacobs Media, a family-owned media company in Gainesville, which also owns WDUN AM 550, WDUN FM 102.9 and The Lake AM1240 and FM94.5. Jacobs Media will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2019.
