Driver uninjured after chicken truck overturns on Thompson Bridge Road Monday

A chicken truck trying to avoid a collision on Thompson Bridge Road ended up overturned Monday.

According to a release from the Georgia State Patrol, a Peterbilt tractor trailer was traveling north on Thompson Bridge Road and approaching the intersection of Willow Brook Drive, the entrance to a residential neighborhood, where it wanted to turn. The chicken truck, a Mack tractor trailer, was also traveling north.

The turn was tight, and troopers said the Peterbilt truck left the lane and crossed over the center line to make a wide right turn. It made the improper turn towards the chicken truck, and the driver of the chicken truck, Keith McDonald, 59, of Cleveland, swerved to avoid a collision between the two. The two trucks did not meet.

In the process of avoiding a collision, the chicken truck struck the curb on the east shoulder of the road and troopers said that impact lead to the truck turning over.

Willie Edwards, 37, of Ellaville, was cited for improper turn. The accident happened around 3:15 p.m., and one lane of Thompson Bridge Road was closed for about an hour.

No one was injured, however, several birds apparently perished in the accident. A Department of Agriculture inspector came to the scene to investigate as well.
