Hall of Fame racer Bill Elliott once said he'd rather be lucky than good.
If that sentiment is true, then color Ryan Blaney lucky, as the Team Penske driver threaded the needle between spinning leaders Martin Truex, Jr. and Jimmie Johnson on the final turn of the final lap to win Sunday's inaugural Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race on the new Charlotte infield road course.
This week's Hard Left Turn podcast looks at all of the action from Sunday's Bank of America 400 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, including:
-That wild last lap, which left Ryan Blany a happy man and and Truex, Jr. and Johnson wondering what might have been.
-The Playoff implications of that last lap, as Johnson's rare gaffe eliminated the seven time champion from the post-regular season for the first time in his career.
-The race was expected to be a crash fest, but the carnage didn't really occur until the final laps, and that mainly due to the unfamiliarity with the new layout.
-There is absolutely, positively no quit whatsoever in Kyle Larson. Brandon and Pete discuss.
-Charlotte marked the first Playoff elimination round, with Johnson, Austin Dillon, Erik Jones and Denny Hamlin kissing thier championship hopes goodbye.
-We preview this weekend's events from the "Monster Mile."
