Georgia prison officials investigating 2 inmate deaths, one at Buford facility

By Associated Press

ATLANTA (AP) Georgia prison officials are investigating two inmate deaths over the weekend, both of which they say are apparent suicides.

The Department of Corrections said in a news release Monday that inmate Christopher Mauldin was found unresponsive around 2:50 a.m. Sunday in his cell at Philips State Prison in Buford. The agency says inmate Bobby Andrew Garlin was found unresponsive around 1:15 a.m. Sunday in his cell at Rogers State Prison in Reidsville.

The Department of Corrections said medical personnel tried unsuccessfully to revive both inmates. The agency is investigating the deaths, which is standard procedure.

Mauldin was in prison on various charges, including burglary, out of Carroll County. Garlin was sentenced in Floyd County on charges including aggravated stalking.
