(UPDATED): Boys basketball: West Hall, Branch, Banks County take region wins; Tigers fall to Hebron

OAKWOOD — West Hall used a 23-6 third quarter to erase a halftime deficit en route to a 60-37 victory over Marist Friday night.

It was the first Region 7-AAAA win of the season for the Spartans (9-10, 1-3 Region 7-AAAA) who have won two straight and four of their last six overall.

West Hall trailed 21-19 at the half but took a 42-27 lead into the fourth quarter after the huge run. The Spartans put the game away in the final period outscoring the War Eagles (7-11, 2-2) 18-10.

The Spartans got solid rebounding from Jesse Mallak, Justin Wade, and Quentin Smith and balanced scoring from Dee Buffington with 20 points, Noah Edmondson with 15 points, and Jeremiah Prather with 8 points.

West Hall next will play host to Habersham Central on Saturday in a non-region battle.

 

FLOWERY BRANCH BOYS 66,
LOGANVILLE 38

The Falcons swept the season series with Loganville after a dominating win at home Friday night.

Justin Quick paced Flowery Branch (13-8, 4-4 Region 8-AAAAA) with 13 points. Myles Janess added 12 points and Patsheko Lutumba had 10 points for the Falcons.

Flowery Branch next will take on region leader Buford on Tuesday at home.

 

BANKS COUNTY BOYS 68,
MONTICELLO 61

Carl Cleveland and Dylan Orr combined for 46 points to lead the Leopards to a big road win in Region 8-AA play.

The win for the Leopards (17-3, 6-1 Region 8-AA) kept them one-half game behind Elbert County (17-3, 7-1) for first place in the region standings. The two teams will meet Tuesday in Homer but the Leopards first will play host to Social Circle on Saturday.

Cleveland poured in 25 points to go with 7 assists and 3 rebounds while Orr had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Gabe Martin added 16 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks for Banks County.

HEBRON CHRISTIAN BOYS 65,
COMMERCE 62

Jamecius Cox dropped in 22 points but it wasn't enough as the Tigers fell to the Lions on the road in Region 8-A action.

Despite the loss Commerce is showing it is close in its rebuild under first-year coach Russ Gregg. The Tigrs lost to Hebron by 25 points earlier in the season.

Jalen Dorsey added 16 points and Tyelon Brock had 11 for the Tigers.

Commerce next will take on Oconee County at Saturday.
