By AccessWDUN Staff

In light of several factors, Gov. Nathan Deal, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and Fulton County government officials, Thursday announced early closures for state and local government in metro Atlanta on Monday. The City of Atlanta will close at 2:30 p.m. Fulton County and state government will close at 3 p.m.

Agencies are also encouraged to allow employees with the ability to telecommute to do so, according to the governor's office. Employees and visitors are also encouraged to use MARTA to travel on Monday.

Though not mentioned in the release, Monday is the day Atlanta will be hosting the college football championship at Mercedes-Benz Stadium between Georgia and Alabama.  In addition, the Associated Press reported Thursday that President Trump plans to attend the game.

Finally, according to Deal's office, state and local governments will continue monitoring weather conditions and forecasts and will send additional guidance to employees as necessary.  Some forecasters are predicting an 80-100 percent chance of rain Monday, with the possibility of some freezing rain.
