WINDER — Brock Landis had 297 total yards and five combined touchdowns to lead Winder-Barrow to a 56-14 blowout win over Apalachee Friday night in Region 8-AAAAAA action.
The win for the Bulldoggs (6-0, 1-0 Region 8-AAAAAA) gave them their first 6-0 start to a season since 1989, the last, and only, time they have completed an undefeated regular season.
Landis rushed for 168 yards and four scores (7, 30, 27, and 8 yards) and passed for 129 yards and one touchdown. Landis and Tyreek Perkins connected on a 30-yard touchdown throw.
Ryan Maynard gave Winder-Barrow a quick 7-0 lead in the first quarter with an interception return for a touchdown. Apalachee (1-5, 0-1) took an 8-7 lead later in the half. The Bulldoggs, however, responded with 21 consecutive points before the Wildcats scored to make it 28-14 by halftime.
Winder-Barrow blew the game open with a 21-point third quarter. The Bulldoggs scored the final 28 points of the game.
Winder-Barrow will face its toughest matchup of the season so far when it travels to Lanier next week in another key 8-AAAAAA contest.
