BUFORD — Seven different players scored for Buford as the Wolves routed Clarke Central 45-7 in their Region 8-AAAAA opener Friday night at Tom Riden Stadium.
Buford (3-1, 1-0 Region 8-AAAAA) piled up 338 total yards -- 174 yards rushing -- but no single player had more than 56 yards on the ground. Freshman quaterback Aaron McLaughlin was 14-of-24 for 164 yards passing and added a rushing touchdown.
Anthony Grant, Christian Turner, Derrien Brown, and Xalan Taylor all had rushing touchdowns. Matt Walton had a touchdown reception from back-up quarterback Will Westmoreland.
Hayden Olsen booted a 40-yard field goal.
The Wolves jumped out to a 17-0 lead after the first quarter and extended it to 31-0 by halftime. The Gladiators (4-2, 1-1) scored their only points in the third quarter before Buford added a pair of fourth quarter scores as both teams went to their reserves.
Clarke Central, which sported the No. 5 offense in Class AAAAA, was held to its lowest output of the season and just 174 total yards for the game.
Buford travels to Johnson next week.
