Suwanee's Pierce's Corner could become a restaurant

The 107-year-old Pierce's Corner building in Old Town Suwanee could become a restaurant, though the details are still being hammered out.

The property, which sits at the corner of Main Street and Scales Road, was purchased by the city's Downtown Development Authority, and $687,000 were originally earmarked for renovations on the property, said Marty Allen, city manager.

"We have some interest from some individuals to put a restaurant in that location, and we are working with them. They want to undertake some of the work as a tenant improvement," said Allen.

The 6,000 square-foot, two-story building was built in 1910 as a general store.

City council approved a change order to the contract with C.B. Summer Construction Company, which is renovating the property.

"It will allow the potential purchaser of the site to complete the construction work," said Allen.

Developers are still working to determine what type of restaurant would work best in the space.

If plans go smoothly, the new restaurant could be open by spring or early summer of 2018, said Allen.

Council approved the updated contract on Tuesday.
