Cornelia announces moratorium on city’s burn ban

CORNELIA — The City of Cornelia is temporarily allowing outdoor burning of leaves and brush following recent storm damage across the area.

During a rescheduled meeting last week, the Cornelia City Commission approved a 60-day moratorium on the city’s ban on outside burning.

That allows residents to obtain a permit to burn leaves and brush only through Nov. 19.

Burn permits must be obtained by calling Cornelia Fire Department at (706) 778-4343.

City officials ask that residents be courteous and notify their neighbors, especially those with breathing issues or allergies, in advance of any anticipated burning.
