Jimmy Johnson scores SELMS victory at Winder-Barrow

By Brandon Reed Reporter

Jimmy Johnson had to hold off a strong challenge from David McCoy over the closing laps of Saturday night’s Southeastern Late Model Sportsman Series feature to score the victory at Georgia’s Winder-Barrow Speedway.

It took four attempts to get the feature race underway. On the first attempt, while Johnson battled for the lead with Chad Puckett, a tangle in turn one involving John Anderson, Gus Simpson and Wesley English sent all three spinning.

On the second attempt, another incident brought the race to a halt before the first lap was complete. On the third, Johnson and Puckett again fought for the lead, making contact as they raced through turn two. Puckett spun on the backstretch, gathering up Chris Woods in the process.

The fourth time was the charm for the field, as Johnson and McCoy battled for the top spot. Johnson would take the lead, and hold it through two more cautions.

Back under green, McCoy would move up to challenge for the lead, but to no avail, as Johnson continued to hold the lead.

Johnson would pace the field the rest of the way, holding off a final lap challenge from McCoy to record the victory.

Simpson finished in third, with Drew Collins in fourth and Joey McCoy in fifth.

In other action, Chris Jones held off Chad Stinchcomb to take the Hobby feature. Dustin Cason finished in third, followed by Crash Nash in fourth and Andy Barton in fifth.

Wormy Gaddis took the win in the Modified Street feature. Aaron Criswell, Jimmy Lee Langley, Keith Wright and Jordan Poole rounded out the top five.

Mark Chancey scored the victory in the Stock V8 feature, with Zach Brown in second, Trey Pilgrim in third, Tim Corbin in fourth and Ronnie Poole in fifth.

Shane Peppers was the winner in the Stock 4A feature. P.J. Taylor was second, with Allen Cantrell third, Roger Cothran fourth and Scotty Cox fifth.

Nick Fulcher took home the win in the Stock 4B feature, with Elliott Brayboy in second, Franklin Sargent in third, Randall Jenkins in fourth and Brandon Franklin in fifth.

Winder-Barrow Speedway returns to action for the track’s last points race of the season on September 23, with the final race of the season to follow on Saturday, Sept. 30.
