Brenau University added 17 professionals to its faculty for the 2017-2018 school year, including a new provost, two fine arts faculty members and 14 faculty members in health sciences to address the growth in the university’s health sciences programs.
Here is a list of the new faculty members, their positions and their educational backgrounds.
*Administration
Jim Eck, provost and vice president for academic affairs, earned his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia; his M.B.A. from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama; and his M.A. and B.A. from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
*College of Fine Arts & Humanities
Charity Armstead, assistant professor of fashion merchandising, is working on her Ph.D. from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa; her M.S. from the University of Georgia; and her B.S. from Lipscomb University in Nashville.
Ben Leaptrott, affiliate faculty of music, earned his M.M. from the University of Rochester (New York); and his B.MUS. from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.

Christine Ball, affiliate instructor of psychology, earned her M.S. from Brenau University and her B.A. from Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia.
Dr. Tammy Buck, assistant professor of physical therapy, earned her D.P.T. from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in Provo, Utah; and her B.S. from Northeastern University in Boston.
Deidre Cassell, instructor of science, started at Brenau University in January 2017. She earned her M.S. from Georgia State University and her B.S. from Brenau University.
Patrena Cody, assistant professor of nursing, earned her Ph.D. from Hampton University (Virginia); her M.S. from Georgia State University; and her B.S.N. from Brenau University.
Philip Elrod, affiliate assistant professor of psychology, earned his E.D.D. and E.D.S. from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia; his M.Ed. from Clemson (South Carolina) University; and his B.S. from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina.
Anjana Freeman, affiliate instructor of psychology, earned her M.S. from Brenau University and her B.S. from Kennesaw (Georgia) State University.
Margie Gill, instructor of psychology, has worked for the Brenau Center for Counseling and Psychological Services for years and is working on her Ph.D. from Brenau University, where she earned her M.S.; she earned her B.S. from Georgia Gwinnett College.
Stacey Hoffman, assistant professor of physical therapy, earned her Ph.D. from the University of Florida and her B.S. from Medical College of Georgia.
Weiwei Hu, instructor of physics, earned her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, and her B.S. from Beijing Normal University (China).
Dr. Paula King, associate professor of occupational therapy, earned her M.D. from Wayne State University in Detroit; her M.P.H. from Emory University in Atlanta; and her B.S. from Howard University in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Jessica Pearson, affiliate assistant professor, earned her D.N.P. and M.S.N. from Augusta State University (Georgia); and her M.S. and B.MUS. from the University of Georgia.
Angie Smith, affiliate instructor of psychology, earned her M.Ed. from Xavier University and her B.A. from Georgetown (Kentucky) College.
Timothy Tolbert, associate professor of exercise science and director of the program, earned his Ph.D. from Middle Tennessee State University; his M.Ed. from Berry College in Rome, Georgia; and his B.S. from University of West Alabama.
Dr. Nicolaas van den Heever, associate professor and director of the school of occupational therapy, earned his D.O.T. from the University of St. Augustine (Florida); and his B.O.T. from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa.
