New phone scam claims to be employees of GDOT

There is a new scam going around Georgia, this time they are claiming to be employees of the Georgia Department of Transportation and are demanding cash.

Northeast District GDOT spokeswoman Katie Strickland tells AccessWDUN, the scammers call and claim that you, the potential victim have been caught on camera breaking a traffic law and if you do not pay a fine, you will lose your liscence.

Strickland says DOT cameras do not record. They only monitor conditions and do not even check for violations. She adds the DOT would never call and demand money, that would be handled by law enforcement.

She says you should never pay anything to anyone who calls demanding money and if they do call you. Write down the return number and contact police.

Strickland says there have been a few calls across the state to potential victims, but as of yet, they have not heard complaints of the call in Northeast Georgia.
