Forsyth County to host an open house for newly renovated Senior Enrichment Center

Forsyth County Senior Services will host an open house and ice cream social  August 29 for residents to tour newly renovated Sexton Hall Enrichment Center.

The free event will be open to the public from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 29.

“We are so excited to show off our improved space to the public,” said Senior Services Director Ruthie
Brew.

“Sexton Hall Enrichment Center has so much to offer our residents 50 and over – from dances and weekly games of Bridge, to Zumba and ceramics.”

Sexton Hall is a converted church that was purchased by the county to serve as a community center for those 50 and older according to Brew.

"We have classrooms, an auditorium and areas for residents ito congregate . With the new renovations we will be able to offer art classes with a new art wing. We have fitness classes, bridge classes, technology classes and many others for people with various interests."

According to Forsyth County's Senior Services, there are currently 16,000 households in the county with someone aged 60 or older residing.

"We are an aging culture nationwide as people are living longer and healthier lives. But Forsyth County has seen a particularly large age explosion along with the other rapid growth. It has become a popular area for retirement," said Brew.

During the Sexton Hall open house, Senior Services faculty and staff will be stationed around the building to talk to residents about what they would experience in one of the classes or fitness events offered.

"It is a great opportunity for people to meet the teachers and staff while getting to see the building come to life."

Sexton Hall Enrichment Center is located adjacent to Sharon Springs Park at 2115 Chloe Road in Cumming.
