Brenau Interior Design students showcase portfolios at High Museum of Art

The High Museum of Art in Atlanta recently hosted Brenau University’s Master of Interior Design Portfolio Exhibition, giving interior design students a chance to showcase their work to the public.

The exhibition has been held at the High since 2011.

The portfolios were comprised of the best representative works that the students created during their time at Brenau, each student contributing 5 to 6 projects to the exhibition for about 30 works total. An awards presentation was also held to honor students with various distinctions for their work.

“We have always found the portfolio exhibitions to be exciting events for the graduates, their friends and families,” said Lynn M. Jones, professor and chair of Brenau’s interior design program. “The portfolios are also a refreshing look at design for residential and corporate interiors, including a community garden market, high end retail establishments and even an after-school learning/playground center. These are spaces that are relevant to our everyday lives. We are thrilled to be able to offer a look at these defining design solutions in the rotunda of the High Museum of Art.”

Students who had their work on display were Jazzmine Eaton of Fairhaven, New Jersey, with her studio project Garden Market; Samantha Greenwald of Buford, with her studio project Inspired at Midtown; Katlyn Jarrard of Gainesville, with her studio project Playground at the Forum; Susan Dare Snead of Roanoke, Virginia, with her studio project Frances and Jim; and Qingyuan “Julia” Zhu of Wuhu, China, with her studio project Forestland Fashion Boutique.

Zhu recently won an Honorable Mention award for Best Commercial Design Concept at the American Society of Interior Designers’ Design Excellence Awards for her project designing a 7,000 square-foot commercial office. She was also the only student in the exhibition who was a MID-only graduate – the other students all earned both BFA and MID degrees from Brenau – as she completed her undergraduate career at Anhui Normal University before coming to Brenau for her graduate work as part of the student-exchange partnership between Brenau and Anhui Normal.
