FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Piedmont College men's soccer team has been picked third in the USA South Preseason Coaches Poll released Wednesday by the conference office. The team is coming off a trip to the USA South Quarterfinals as the #7 seed posting an 8-9-1 overall record in 2016.

For the first year in men's soccer, the conference has been split into divisions with coaches only voting for their divisions and not voting for their own teams. In 2017, the conference welcomes new league members Berea College, Brevard College and Pfeiffer University. Brevard and Pfeiffer will not be included in the polls as they are each reclassifying from Division II and are not eligible for championship honors this season.

Piedmont was selected third taking 18 points in the poll with Maryville picked as the preseason favorite in the West Division after winning the tournament title for the first time in 2016. The Scots took five of the six first place votes with second place Covenant earning the remaining first place vote.

The Lions open the season on the road taking on Bob Jones University Saturday, September 2 at 7:00 p.m.

The 2017 USA South Men's Soccer Tournament will once again be conducted exclusively on campus sites. The top-four seeded teams from each division will advance to the tournament.
