Lanier High teacher resigns amid inappropriate relationship investigation

In the midst of an investigation into an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student, Gwinnett County Schools officials said a teacher resigned Friday.

Oji Perkins cited personal reasons in his resignation, according to a statement from the school system, but noted the resignation took place during the HR investigation.

The district will be making a report to the Professional Standards Commission, the statement said. The committee is responsible for teacher certifications.

The Gwinnett Daily Post reports Perkins was the girls basketball coach, head track coach, and previously coached the girls ninth-grade basketball team, though his name has been removed from the school's athletics webpage.

The Post also reports Perkins previously coached track and field and cross country at North Gwinnett High from 2007-10 and went to Lanier when the school opened in 2010.
