Forsyth County authorities have a new online presence in the form of a recently updated website with new user tools.
The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office announced the improvements on its Facebook page this week.
Instead of using a web development company, the site was created by the department's in-house Information Technology Unit. Officials estimated that the move resulted in a cost savings of $30,000.
"The website is intended for user ease and information," a post on the office's Facebook page stated. "Most notably is our new crime mapping system and the ability to see exactly what is happening in your neighborhoods."
The site also features a tool to perform a database search for convicted sex offenders and a list of current jail inmates and their charges. Officials soon expect to release a video tutorial on those two site features.
"The website is still being improved weekly and we welcome suggestions for improvement," the social media post added.
