Deputies: Buford man fled traffic stop, 'narrowly' missed hitting deputy with car

A Buford man is facing a total of 10 charges for allegedly fleeing a traffic stop, nearly hitting a Hall County Sheriff's deputy in the process.

Jeremy Jebb Wilkerson, 32, was pulled over for speeding on Browns Bridge Road shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday, and led the deputy into the parking lot of the Budgetel Inn and Suites, where Wilkerson backed into a parking spot, according to Deputy Stephen Wilbanks, Hall County Sheriff's Office spokesman.

As the deputy walked up to Wilkerson's car, Wilkerson backed out of the space and sped out of the parking lot, "narrowly missing the deputy" in the process, said Wilbanks.

At that point, Gainesville Police officers found Wilkerson's vehicle heading west on Browns Bridge Road, turning south on McEver Road.

In a lucky break for officers, Wilkerson's car started having mechanical problems near Gould Road, and he came to a stop in a nearby gas station.

He allegedly fled on foot, and was taken into custody a short time later.

Nobody was injured, and no shots were fired in the process.

Wilkerson is charged with aggravated assault of a peace officer, fleeing/eluding, obstruction of an officer, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug objects, speeding, driving on a suspended license and crossing the guard line.

He was also wanted on a probation warrant related to charges of simple battery and obstruction of an emergency call in an unrelated case.
