'Striding for a Better Banks' set today in Homer

HOMER — The Banks County Recreation Department in Homer will come alive with a flurry of activity as it hosts "Striding for a Better Banks" from 10 a.m. to noon today, July 29.

The free event will include displays of county and area services, giveaways from participants, and sheriff’s K-9 and other demonstrations.

There will be free information and goodies for local families getting their children ready to go back to Banks County Schools, as well as family preparedness information. 

Some of the organizations planning to participate include a medical helicopter from AirLife Georgia 2 (weather and call volume permitting), Banks County Adult Literacy, Banks County Chamber of Commerce, Banks County Clean and Beautiful, Banks County Commission, Banks County Division of Family and Children Services, Banks County Fire/EMS, Banks County 9-1-1/Emergency Management Agency, Banks County Public Library, Banks County Recreation Department, Banks County School System, Banks County Sheriff’s Office, Family Connection, American Red Cross, Homer Fire Department, Sparky the Fire Dog, and the University of Georgia Extension Service.

Additionally, representatives from Alto Police Department, the Georgia Emergency Management Agency, Georgia Forestry Commission, Georgia State Patrol, National Weather Service and other agencies are set to be present.

The Banks County Recreation Department is located on Thompson Street in Homer.
