Brenau University recognized as top workplace among higher ed institutions

By AccessWDUN Staff

For the third year, Brenau University was recognized Monday as one of the best higher education institutions to work for in the United States.

It was among about 80 universities and colleges – and one of only three from Georgia – listed in The Chronicle of Higher Education’s 2017 "Great Colleges to Work For" rankings, according to a press statement from the university.

The publication noted that Brenau recognizes innovative and high-quality teaching, its supervisors makes expectations clear and solicits ideas, and employees are regularly recognized for their contributions.

Brenau officials said The Chronicle’s Great Colleges to Work For survey is the largest and most comprehensive workplace study in higher education. Now in its 10th year, it recognizes the colleges that get top ratings from their employees on workforce practices and policies. Brenau broke into the survey in 2011 as part of the elite group of national universities that gained “Honor Roll” status in the rankings.

The results are based on demographics, workplace policies, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition is the employee feedback.

“We offer great pay and benefits and create a fun environment for employees while providing exceptional academic programs for our students," Brenau President Ed Schrader said in the press statement. "We are small enough to be able to give individual attention to every employee, enabling each one to know how important they are to our mission."

Brenau was one of 232 institutions that participated in the 2017 survey, based on responses from more than 110,000 college and university employees at all levels. ModernThink LLC, a human resources consulting firm based in Delaware, tailored the survey around an assessment that has guided more than 50 “best places to work” programs.

Specifically, the university won honors in three categories: respect and appreciation, teaching environment and supervisor-department chair relationship.
