Georgia Power plans to close its remaining 27 business offices, including one in our area, in October 2017.
That includes the Gainesville office on Spring Street.
Craig Bell with the utility said in an email statement that customers are shifting from in person and by mail payments to electronic payments.
Electronic payments, which make up 70 percent off payments, Bell said, include online, mobile, auto-draft and at Authorized Payment Locations.
Bell said those who like to pay in person can still do so at APLs, with 58 different locations within six miles of the office on Spring Street. A map of locations can be found here.
Bell said approximately 300 employees will be affected across the state, however they only expect a reduction in workforce by about 100 employees.
