Gwinnett Fire investigating after arson at Lawrenceville home

Gwinnett County Fire officials are looking for the suspect in a Lawrenceville fire Wednesday morning after determining it was an arson.

Fire investigators found multiple points of origin and believe an accelerant was used at the home in the 1100 block of Kibbe Circle NW. Evidence was collected on scene and sent for lab testing. The fire quickly spread inside from the exterior wall and raced to the attic, according to the release.

Authorities are not yet releasing details about how the fires were set or the evidence collected. A motive has not been established.

According to a release from fire officials, around 6:30 a.m., neighbors saw smoke and fire coming from the home and tried to use a garden hose to put it out while waiting for firefighters. Officials said the neighbors also knocked on the door to see if anyone was home, but got no response.

When firefighters arrived, they forced entry into the home and were able to rescue a dog, who required medical oxygen administration but was otherwise fine. No human occupants were found in the home, and the occupants of the home have been in touch with investigators. Two adults and three children were displaced due to the extensive damage.

“This blaze was a bold act, that could have placed a number of people in extreme danger,” said Gwinnett Fire Captain Tommy Rutledge in the release.
