Vehicle theft suspect ejected, killed in Gwinnett crash, driver arrested

A Forsyth County woman is dead and a second suspect is facing charges for the theft of a vehicle and subsequent chase that ended in Gwinnett County.

Shortly after 10 p.m. July 1, a car was reported stolen at the Shell gas station on Buford Highway near Samples Road, according to Deputy Doug Rainwater, Forsyth County Sheriff's Office spokesman.

A deputy spotted the stolen vehicle, driven by Alston Spence, 28, of Cumming, and attempted to pull it over.

Spence drove away with his passenger, Andrea Allison, 38, of Cumming, and hit another car head-on near Sycamore Road.

Allison was ejected, and died at the scene, while the four occupants of the on-coming vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Spence was arrested by Gwinnett County Sheriff's deputies on charges of homicide by vehicle (felony), reckless driving, fleeing and attempting to elude, theft by receiving (felony) and traffic-related charges.

Spence also faces charges of theft by taking (felony) and fleeing and attempting to elude in Forsyth County, plus a probation violation in Hall County.

He remains in the Gwinnett County Jail.

The Gwinnett County Police Department is handling the accident investigation. As of Monday afternoon, the report was not finalized, said Cpl. Michele Pihera, Gwinnett Police spokeswoman.
