24 prisoners, guard suffer minor injuries in Gwinnett prison transport wreck

24 inmates and a guard suffered minor injuries when the prison transport bus they were on was involved in a crash on I-85 in the Buford area Friday afternoon.

The wreck happened around 2 p.m. in the area of Buford Drive, according to Gwinnett County Fire Department Capt. Tommy Rutledge.

"The prisoners were (medically) released by paramedics to the custody of law enforcement and prison officials. The guard was also evaluated and released at the scene by paramedics. There were no other injuries reported," said Rutledge in a press statement.

A second prison bus was called to transport the prisoners to their destination.

"Several" vehicles were involved, but the injuries were limited to the prison bus.
