Peters edges Lampp brothers for Winder-Barrow win

By Brandon Reed Reporter

Rodney Peters scored his second Limited Late Model victory in as many weeks at Georgia’s Winder-Barrow Speedway on Saturday night, but it didn’t come easy.

Peters had to hold off brothers Jeffrey Lampp and Ken Lampp, who challenged him over the closing laps to record the win.

On the initial start of the race, Jeffrey Lampp jumped out to the early lead, but saw that go away when several cars tangled back in the pack. Shawn Tullis, Tyler Canup and Chad Puckett were among those involved, bringing out the caution.

On the next attempt at a start, Peters got the jump, with Jeffrey Lampp in pursuit. But a tangle on turn two between Tullis and Scott Frady sent Frady spinning on the backstretch, bringing out another caution.

On the third start attempt, Peters again got the edge, but Jeffrey Lampp pulled back alongside off turn two, and the two race side-by-side for the next lap. Peters was finally able to take the point as the field reached the flagstand.

Behind the leader, Jeffery Lampp and Ken Lampp put on a side-by-side battle for second for several laps, with Jeffery holding the advantage on the outside line.

As the laps wound down, the gap between the top three began to close, with all three cars racing in close proximity to each other. But Peters was able to hold off the challenge to take the victory. Jeffrey Lampp finished in second, with Ken Lampp in third, Canup in fourth and Tullis in fifth.

In other action, Tracy Pannell took the win in the Modified Street feature. Aaron Criswell finished in second, with Jordan Poole third, Keith Wright fourth and Paul Bennett fifth.

Mark Chancey was the winner in the Stock V-8 feature, with Zach Brown in second, Trip Sexton in third, T.J. Overby in fourth and Jeff Casper in fifth.

In the Hobby Stock feature, Justin Sims came home with the victory. Dustin Cason, Chad Stinchcomb, Jerome Hanson and Chris Jones rounded out the top five.

Justin Taylor scored the victory in the Stock 4A feature, with P.J. Taylor in second, Zack Sanders in third, Shane Peppers in fourth and Allen Cantrell in fifth.

Elliott Brayboy took the win in the Stock 4B feature. Cody Peppers finished second, with Coty Sanders third, Randall Jenkins fourth and Brandon Cox in fifth.

Winder-Barrow Speedway returns to action on Saturday, June 17 for the Jimmy Payne Memorial. For more information, visit WinderBarrowSpeedway.net.
