The busy Dawsonville Highway corridor in Gainesville is home to another restaurant - Chicken Salad Chick opened its 70th location Tuesday, June 13.
The Gainesville location is owned and operated by new franchisee team Bob and Penny Wiggins, according to a press statement from the company.
"The Wiggins bring 20 years of restaurant industry experience to the Chicken Salad Chick family," the statement read. "In addition to their prior experience, Bob Wiggins was also involved in the commercial real estate industry. Their first taste of Chicken Salad Chick came after Penny Wiggins and founder Stacy Brown met on a trip to Florida seven years ago. After learning more about the brand’s inspiring story, the Wiggins’ were sold on the unique concept and made the business decision to return back to the restaurant industry."
Part of the opening day fun was giveaways for the first 100 customers in line. The first guest received free chicken salad for a year - or one large Quick Chick of chicken salad per week for an entire year. The next 99 guests received a large Quick Chick of chicken salad per month for a year.
Gainesville resident Layne Saliba was first in line, and his sister Mary Kathryn Saliba was right behind him in the number two spot. The siblings said they got in line at 4 p.m. Monday and spent the night outside the new restaurant to win the big prize. Layne Saliba said he is a senior at the University of Georgia and has eaten at the Athens restaurant, so he knew the chicken salad at Chicken Salad Chick would be worth the wait.
Chicken Salad Chick will have other promotions throughout the opening week in Gainesville. See the restaurant at 1122 Dawsonville Highway for details.
