Oakwood Police investigators hope a short video will generate leads in the search for the at-fault driver in a crash that resulted in serious injuries to a Gainesville man this week.
Police responded to the collision around 2:20 p.m. Wednesday afternoon on Thurmon Tanner Road.
The suspect driver was crossing over northbound Thurmon Tanner Road from a private drive just west of Mundy Mill Road, according to Sgt. Danny Sridej. The at-fault driver hit the victim's vehicle in the southbound lane of Thurmon Tanner Road and fled the scene, according to police.
The video of the suspect vehicle was retrieved from a nearby business, according to Sridej. It shows a white 4-door mid-size car.
"The suspect's vehicle will have moderate damage to the right front fender and is missing a front hub cap," Sridej wrote in a media release.
Authorities don't know the exact make and model of the car and don't have further information on the driver.
The victim, a 71-year-old Gainesville man, was traveling alone in a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. Sridej called his injuries serious.
"...spine-related injuries, and he's in the ICU right now, so we need to find the he or she that left the scene."
Sridej declined to release the victim's name, asking for privacy for the family.
Once located, he said the at-fault driver could face charges.
"It would be hit-and-run with serious injuries, failure to maintain lane and failure to stop and render aid."
Sridej is asking for citizens with information on the suspect or vehicle to contact Oakwood Police or Crime Stoppers of Greater Atlanta. Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest.
