The latest scam that's cropped up in North Georgia is targeting businesses in the White County area.
The White County Chamber of Commerce issued a written statement this week, warning businesses that a company that goes by a variety of names has been making phone calls trying to sell area maps and calendar items. The caller claims to be working in partnership with the Chamber and the White County Sheriff's Office.
"They claim to have an agreement with a former interim president of the Chamber and with a current staff member of the Sheriff’s Office," the statement read. "Neither the Chamber nor the Sheriff’s Office is working with this company,"
The company, which apparently operates under the banner Universal AdCom, goes by several names when making business pitches. Some of those names include: Premier Print Company, Hometown Productions, D & L Map Service, Fanfare Sports, Premier Impressions, Scoreboard Productions, Premier Map Company, Totes To Go, Universal AdCom, L.L.C., UAC Collections, RadioPromos, Radio Promos, Mr. Event Guru and Event Guru.
Chamber officials said they started hearing about the calls on May 22.
