Bagwell, Strickland to be honored by Riverside Military Academy

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

Tommy Bagwell and the late Loyd Strickland have been chosen by Riverside Military Academy  to receive this year's Sandy Beaver Entrepreneurial Leadership Award.

The award is given by the school each year to "honor area entrepreneurs whose business acumen and leadership are reminiscent of that of Sandy Beaver, RMA president from 1913 to 1969," according to the school's website. Revenue and donations from the dinner will help grow the Riverside Military Academy Foundation and generate tuition assistance for families with demonstrated need.

Strickland, who died in 2013, founded Crystal Farms, Inc. in 1947, which at one time was one of the largest commercial egg producers in Georgia and the nation.  His community involvement included membership on the task force that helped create Gainesville State College (now the Gainesville campus for the University of North Georgia).

Bagwell is the owner and CEO of American Proteins, Inc., located in Cumming, one of the largest rendering companies in the world.  He and his wife, Chantal, are recognized philanthropists and have been previously honored as Philanthropists of the Year by the North Georgia Community Foundation.
