Roderick wins after Grill crashes out at Montgomery

By Brandon Reed Reporter

Casey Roderick came home with the victory in Saturday night’s Memorial 100 Pro Late Model feature at Alabama’s Montgomery Motor Speedway. But it was far from easy for the Lawrenceville, Georgia driver.

After Saturday’s scheduled event at Tennessee’s Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville was washed out, Roderick and his Ronnie Sanders Motorsports team made the four hour, 280 mile trip to Montgomery, Alabama to take part in the race. Having arrived late, Roderick would start the 100 lap feature from the back of the pack.

After working his way through the field, the fight for the win came down between the Roderick and Hayden, Alabama veteran Augie Grill.

The duo battled for the lead over the second half of the event, racing side-by-side on several occasions. As they raced into the first corner with eight laps to go, the two cars again made contact, this time sending Grill into the outside wall.

Race officials reviewed video of the incident, finally declaring that Roderick had not intentionally caused the accident. Roderick would remain in the lead, and went on to score the victory, his seventh of the 2017 season.

Dacula, Georgia’s Christopher Tullis finished in second, with Riley Thornton in third, Perry Patino in fourth and Bill Bethea III in fifth.

R.S. Senter, Ty Roberts, Justin Caton, Brandon Herbert and Bobby Knox, Jr. rounded out the top ten.

In other action, Trey Grimes took the win in the first of two Street Stocks features, with J.C. Clecker in second, Will Smith in third, Brian Hutchinson in fourth and Terry Grimes in fifth.

Charles Davis was the winner in the second Street Stock feature, with Grimes second, Clecker third, Hutchinson in fourth and Smith in fifth.
