A look at news from area schools, colleges and universities:

*South Forsyth High School students earned top scores on the National German Exam.  This was the first year that South Forsyth participated in the National German Exam for Level 1 students.  Forty-two Level 1 students took the exam.  Of those forty-two students, South Forsyth High School had five gold award winners, meaning they scored in the 90th percentile or better in the country (5,593 students participates nationwide). 

Several students from South Forsyth were recognized for their artwork selected to be on display in the new Atlanta Bread Company location at The Collection on Peachtree Parkway.  Art students at the school were invited to participate in a contest based on the theme “What Does Community Mean to me?”.   The selected artwork will be on display for approximately one year with plans to hold a contest annually.  

*Riverside Military Academy's Chinese (Mandarin) students have passed their HSK certification at all levels.  Students are required to take the HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) test, an international standardized test of Chinese language proficiency, at the conclusion of each course.  

*Tallulah Falls School graduated 61 seniors this year.  The ceremony was held May 12 in the school's new Student Activity Center.  U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and former Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue was the keynote speaker.

*The Hall County 4-H Home School Club recently sponsored Animal Education Day at the Spout Springs Library in Flowery Branch.  Over 150 people attended the event, interacting with barnyard animals such as chickens, ducks, a mule, a donkey, a Shetland pony, goats, sheep and a pot belly pig.  Club members were assigned to research and develop a script that described each animal. The youth members then stood with their assigned animal and shared facts with the attendees.

*Piedmont College President Dr. James F. Mellichamp presented the H.M. Stewart Sr. Valedictorian Award to Zachary Ryan Langley of Lilburn and Brittany Stancil of Toccoa during recent Baccalaureate ceremonies at the Piedmont Chapel in Demorest. Langley and Stancil graduated with highest honors from Piedmont on May 6. 

*All North Georgia Technical College Alumni are invited to the 2017 Annual Meeting and Awards Program to be held Saturday, June 10, in the Dining Hall Annex on the Clarkesville Campus. Beginning at 11:30 a.m., the Silent Auction will open with all proceeds going to the Alumni Scholarship Fund. A luncheon will be served at noon followed by the business meeting and election of officers.
